It’s Cold (Part 2)

I wonder if today was my last outdoor session at Faneuil Hall for the year. I played for about 3 hours and boy was it cold. The first hour (from 1-2) was great. I sold tons of CDs and made plenty of tips. After that it slowed down considerably. If you had asked me a month ago what the winding down of the Faneuil Hall season would mean, I’d be like “Great, now I can relax!” but things are much different now. I’m rejuvenated and having a great time and don’t want to leave but alas, all good things must come to an end. I received permission, however, to perform indoors at the rotunda (center of the food court) once it is too cold to play outside. It will be great because I’ll have some sort of a consistent income. Though I’m incredibly lucky to be a full-time musician right now, things are drying up a bit for November and December. I’ve been lucky enough to pound it in September and October and have stockpiled a month’s worth of income (what I need to make for a month’s income is private…ha) although that leads me on a tangent…

…Tangent!…

At my show at AIC earlier this week, a couple of students interviewed me for their journalism class. They were both very nice and asked about my influences and all that jazz but one of the students asked what I was getting paid for the gig. Is that weird or what? I told her I didn’t feel comfortable talking about what I get paid but it’s something that I talk to my friends about pretty openly. (hint: I don’t make that much money, ha) I don’t feel that comfortable talking about that to someone I just met and especially someone who was going to write about it for school. Weird.

Anyhow, I’m really looking forward to things slowing down for shows but things will never truly slow down. Obviously, the studio is in the front of my mind right now (next to the Red Sox, which starts in less than an hour…game 4!) and the way I have things planned, it will probably be the last recording until next Fall (when I’ll hopefully…FINALLY record my first full length). Besides that, I’m getting ready for Dec. 13th at The Paradise Lounge, which will be a big show for us. Things never really slow down…

In good news land, besides the recent resumes I’ve received for my potential interns, I’m going to be working with a manager in the next month. An acquaintance of mine, who graduated from UMASS Lowell with a Music Business degree, is looking to manage a band, which means I’m going to get another set of hands and another brain to help with things. It’ll be great to work with her for co-ordinating marketing and she also has an interest in publishing, which could be fantastic as well. After I’m done with this entry, for the rest of the time before the Sox, I’m going to be drafting up an agreement for her and she’s doing the same for me. Hopefully by the end of November we’ll be officially working together and conquering the world…But we’ll see.

I think that’s all for today. I can’t concentrate much beacuse the Sox will be on soon.

woop.

Hey congrats on being a full-time musician.. not many can say that. Your “living the dream” is an inspiration to me. Perhaps one day I’ll be able to ditch my cubicle for a steady offering of gigs..

Hi Brian, TODAY is the DAY! I saw you playing Wonderwall at the quincy market. I was in a trip with my school for the week end (from Montreal)and I didn’t expect to discover a new singer. I buy your CD and I’m listening it all day long! It was a very magic moment! You are very talented, keep going. I hope you’ll have everything you want. Good Luck!
