Coming out of my coma…
…My food coma that is.
Also, my blog writing coma. It is the Saturday after Thanksgiving and I am still at my parents’ house in Lowell. I will be going back to Boston in a short while but for now I’m still digesting my Thanksgiving meal. It was several days of eating and drinking too much and I feel that sloth that follows such a feast. I will be going to the gym today to get a membership and am going to really make a push to get back in shape. I haven’t been to the gym in quite some while and have been able to hold off on getting a membership during the warmer months because of the amount of tennis that I have been playing. My drive is renewed, however, and I turn to my hero ARNOLD to get me pumped up.
Like everyone, I look at Thanksgiving as a time to…umm…give thanks for what I have in my life. I have had a fantastic year and now that it is coming to a close (though December is as busy of a month as anyone I have had so far) I can look at some of the things that I was thankful for during 2007:
1. Like every year, I am blessed to have a great foundation of friends and family who look out for me. This goes beyond music and is evident in my relationships with the people who are close to me.
2. Moving in with Cahill (and the boys downstairs). It’s been a great musical alliance and though we don’t play many shows together anymore (I have found that our fans don’t really mix too well…) living with them has helped me learn to relax and has been an opportunity to have a couple guys to sound off on regularly about things musical and otherwise.
3. Working with Will Dailey. I don’t know why but as long as I’ve been in Boston, Will has had my back. Even though his star has been on the rise this year (with a new, fancy record deal and a billion music placements on television), he has been kind enough to record an EP for me this year and offered the big show at The Paradise Rock Club, which I think still holds the title as coolest show ever for me.
4. Other musical people who have had my back. Most specifically, Stephen Kellogg, his manager and their peeps for thinking of me on their first night at The Paradise Rock Club this past October. They didn’t have to pick me, but they did, and it was great.
5. ALL of the people that I have met at Faneuil Hall. The people who stopped by and danced, or sang and bought a CD, or dropped a dollar, or a nickel, or a penny. I keep meeting fascinating people there and have even befriended a few. Keep in touch!
6. The Rock For Sophea Concert. In May, we held a benefit concert for a little girl my sister used to babysit who suffers from Congenital Muscular Dystrophy. Will, Cahill, and my brother played along with us and we smashed our goal of raising $6000 (we made over $9000). My sister did much of the work for this concert too so props for her.
7. Other people that I have met this year. The handful of great people that I worked with before and during playing at their colleges. Those I still keep in touch with. Also, Austin, the first intern in the Danger Room Productions guinea pig internship program.
8. The supportive people at Northeastern University (especially in the music program). Jim, for mentoring me and Junauro, for thinking of me for the teacher’s assistant position (which will be a HUGE help come January).
9. Andy and Anthony for our first full year being a band.
I think 8 is where I’ll leave it. It’s been a fun year but I’m all ready itching for what will happen in ‘08. Things are only going to get better.
