12.6.07 Frankling Pierce Review

On Thursday night, the band played at Franklin Pierce. I only got one picture that was a keeper, and it’s above. We had a small but appreciative crowd and they had these cool lamps on the tables and they held them above their heads for us. We also hada lightshow, which was very weird but cool. There was only like 12 people there but we had a lightshow, so go figure.

The show itself went well. Shows have been few and far between since our Hookslide Kelly’s residency has ended but we pick things up pretty well once we get back in the groove. It was a nice warm-up show for our Paradise Lounge gig, though Brian Packer didn’t make this show.

We got stuck in traffic on the way there and an hour and a half trip with Andy took over 2 hours but it was fine because Andy and I spent time listening to the CD and talking about arrangements for songs. We also tried to harmonize with one of my songs, “Have Heart”. One of my resolutions for the new year is to get the others in the band singing harmonies. It’s always been something that’s lacked in my music and I look forward to taking it there.

So the show itself was good. The crowd, like I said was small, but we had a Q&A session between our songs as kind of a joke and something I’ve been doing a lot lately but never with the band. Questions that were asked include:

“When is your birthday”
“What is your favorite cereal”
“What is your favorite movie”
“What is your favorite pair of shoes (apparently you can tell a lot about a person from their shoes)”
“What is your favorite food”
“Where are you from”

No real provocative questions but it was a nice ice breaker I think for the people in attendance.

One girl who attended the show had seen me two years ago at a cafe in Barre, Massachusetts. It was a weird cafe because it was in a small, out of the way town and the cafe was located inside of a used car dealership. Anyhow, the girl goes to FPU now and I’m glad that she was able to come out to the show.

We turn our attention now to The Paradise Lounge show (this thursday!). I’m meeting with our guitarist Brian Packer on Sunday to work on songs. We’ve only played together a few times and I’m nervous about how he’ll turn out but he’s really pro so I’m sure it’ll be fine. Then on Monday the band has practice. Wednesday we may have practice depending on how things go on Monday. Then Thursday it is go time and I’m still very excited.

In a couple hours I’m going to be playing at Faneuil Hall indoors at the rotunda (where the seating is in the food court). I’m nervous because I’ve never played there before. Even though I’ve played Faneuil Hall about 100 times, I always get nervous when it’s time to play at a new place. Hopefully it goes well, though, because I’d really like to get in the groove of doing that one or two times a week.

That’s all for now. There is much to be done. I’ve been watching HBO’s ‘Six Feet Under’ now because ‘The Office’ writers are still on strike. I don’t like to get wrapped up in television shows (it seldom happens) but I’m knee deep in this one right now. It’s a beautiful show but it’s very sad. Anyhow, that just means I have some catching up to do on some work.
