Chicken Pot Pie Divine
…So yea, we got a BUNCH of snow yesterday and the big show at The Paradise Lounge was cancelled. It’s a complete drag but a bit of a relief for a few reasons:
1. There was this big hub-bub with the order of the bands and the line-up and stuff that I don’t care to get into because it was like a 24-hour head ache to deal with.
2. Even if we played in the snow, the club probably would have lost money because people wouldn’t show up…and that wouldn’t bode well for us.
So instead I hung in with the 6 of us in the house + Scott’s girlfriend, my girlfriend and her roommate (making 9) and my gf made dinner for all of us (chicken pot pie), desert (cookie cake –!!!) and we watched the 25th anniversary of PUMPING IRON, my favorite documentary about the world of competitive male bodybuilding.
Anyhow, that’s how I spent yesterday. I didn’t end up doing ANYTHING music related except trying to alert everyone that the show was cancelled. Today I moved back into the swing of things. I worked on my ear training, wrote a song, conversed with Austin the intern (who finished his job today *how sad*) and am prepping myself for the studio tonight. I got the bounces of the tracks that I recorded two weeks ago and have listened to them a couple times. We’re laying down percussion tonight. Well, I’m not, but Alex’s roommate is going to help us out because Anthony didn’t want to come into the city this evening just to lay down percussion.
The tracks aren’t finished yet but they’re coming along. I’m anxious to hear how the finished product comes out. I keep recording these EPs to build my chops up but nothing has come out quite like I would like it to sound (in my head at least). Working with Mike and Alex has been great an I think I’m going to get the best of the both worlds when comparing this EP to the other two that I have recorded this year. The sound quality will be equal to the EP I did at 6 Media and the sound will be similar to what I did with Will so I guess it’s yet another improvement.
I’ve had a really tough struggle with songwriting lately. I went ahead and studied a couple Josh Ritter songs and I think that I need to start listening to more music. I think I’m going to have to put at least an hour of listening into my every day schedule and I’m going to have to force myself to get out there and buy some new music too. There is nothing new out there that is really impressing me but I need to at least try and find something.
After this weekend I will be in the winter lull. We don’t have another show scheduled until January 18th and like I said, some big changes will be instituted. I’m going to work on writing some more material and trying to become a better guitarist.
All in all, I’m pretty even-keeled right now.
I have to finish getting ready for the studio. Wish me luck.
