My blogging has gotten so sporadic that people are actually asking when I’m going to be blogging again. I didn’t even think anyone read this. Ha.
1. Doing taxes for being a sole proprietor musician is a drag. Though I haven’t started “doing taxes” yet, I’ve been working on getting my accounting in order by organizing revenues, expenses, deductions and everything and it’s a TOTAL pain. I had to get QuickBooks bookkeeping for my computer but apparently I didn’t pay enough attention in my accounting class at NEU because I’m having a very difficult time with it. Ha. If I wasn’t so DIY, I’d pay someone to do all this crap for me but I don’t think I make enough money to be able to pay for that and besides, it’s a nice break from a lot of the business monotony that’s part of my job.
2. My new interns started. They are named James and Tara and they are fantastic so far. Tara’s specialty is graphic design work and James is super personable and is going to be a marketing guru. We send about 500 e-mails a day to one another and Tara’s all ready done some superb work on My Space for me re-designing my layout and James has proven to be a good person to bounce ideas off of and he’s been promoting my show at Holy Cross next week. I can’t overstate how great it’s been so far and how excited I am to see how things come together.
3. I’ve started my TA position at Northeastern. It’s going to be like 25 hours a week which I think might take away from my musical playing but I think overall, it’s a good thing. It’ll be some solid money in my pocket and it might be a door to maybe teaching someday, which I wouldn’t mind doing. For those of you not up to snuff, I am a teacher’s assistant for a History of Rock Music class…How rock and roll is that?
4. We’re orienting the new band. Max is now playing drums. I still feel bad about how things went down with Anthony but it is the best thing for the band. We have a show next Friday but I haven’t even started practicing with him yet. We’re getting down to the nitty gritty tomorrow.
It’s a shame because SO MUCH is going on that I should report about but I’m so busy that I don’t have time to blog. Life is good though. I was getting a touch depressed last week because I felt like I wasn’t getting any work done and that things weren’t going anywhere but I feel much more purpose-driven now.
Back in the swing and hopefully it won’t be too long before the next post!
Oh yea, I’m going to PA for a gig next week! and I’m flying to San Francisco in February for a gig. How sweet is that?
Got to jet!
