I slept easily last night. Still, I wasn’t able to sleep late. I got my sleeping floor of 8 hours but I don’t think I’ve slept completely in a week. I’m glad this OurStage competition is over. I’m a compulsive person by nature and this competition was not healthy for me. I wanted to play The Paradise in February so bad that the task consumed me for nearly a week. We were able to win the quarter-finals easily and the semi-finals pretty easily (which surprised me).
…I have thanked everyone a ton but for the spare stragglers who voted and who regularly read the blog THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP. We are really excited for the opportunity to play the Paradise again…
To make a long story short, that’s what I did most of yesterday. I grinded and tried to get EVERYONE to vote. I went to go see the Celtics with my family and I left the game early to try and get home and get EVERYONE to vote. We didn’t end up winning, we came in 12th. HOWEVER, we’re playing at the Paradise!
A week from today is the 1 year anniversary of when I first played the Paradise. I was incredibly lucky to play there 3 times last year and each time it was awesome. Each time I was on the stage and was like, “I’ve wanted to play here forever” and I’m lucky to be able to do it for the 4th time. I was telling Max the other day that I think I’m someone who does the most with the least. I don’t have a huge fan base or a pristine sounding CD (though “The Glory EP” sounds pretty great and will be making its first appearance at The Paradise when we soft-release it) but I have been making leaps and strides in the last year with 3 (now 4) Paradise appearances, making my living making music, showcasing at The Verge College Music Conference and I look forward to what this year will reveal.
So February 26th we’ll make a stab at The Paradise. We hope to be able to pack the place with loud friends, fans, and family and we hope to be able to play well, play inspired, and take home the first prize of $5000…We’ll see though.
I wanted to again thank James and Tara and everyone from My Space, the e-mail list and everyone else who supported us a ton with this competition!
Here we go!

In other news, we have 8 days until our next band show at Winterfest. We haven’t practiced much and I’m not worried, it’s just a bit of a drag. Luckily, our time slot was cut down, so we don’t need as much material as I had originally expected. It’s going to be fun because we’re playing with Cahill and we’re going to be back home. We’re playing in the Masonic temple in downtown Lowell during the soup tasting competition which is pretty sweet.
I think I’m going home to play with Bret tomorrow. Bret used to play drums in my high school band, Overture, and he might fill in for Max while he’s away at Key West. I played with James earlier this week and it was pretty cool but I want to check out all my options. I’ve played with Bret in the past and we have good chemistry (he played with Andy too) so if his chops are up, he might be a good fit. I don’t know, we’ll see.
A week from Sunday I head to CA. I don’t want to say I’m nervous, but I don’t really know what to do with myself. I have a gig in San Francisco on Monday the 11th but I wasn’t able to get a gig in LA. I think I’m going to meet up with my friend Katie, who used to go to NEU and I’m going to be doing work with my interns and my TA work. I am also going to try and relax a bit, which I don’t do ever. Ha. So, I’m sure I’ll figure something else.
The last thing of note is that it looks like I’m going to be going on tour with the band in April. We got e-mailed by a woman from Western Illinois University who saw us at The Verge and wanted to book us for a benefit concert that is against violence and is sponsored amongst others by the USA Today. It’s shaping up to be a big event and they can’t really pay us much (it’s 20 hours and 1200 miles away) so I’m trying to see if it’s feasible to make the tour possible with the band. I sure hope so because it would be a blast. I don’t necessarily want to make money. I just want to see if we can break even on costs. That would be sweet.
Anyways, I’m going to do some preliminary tour routing. How exciting!
That’s everything. Hopefully I can post soon but I’m going to be chillaxing for the weekend!
