Commercial Radio Debut!
Last night The River 92.5 played “Cavity” off of The Glory EP as part of their Homegrown Music segment every night at 10 pm. It was our first spin on commercial radio (we’ve received play on a number of non-commercial college radio stations) and it was pretty sweet. I was at my girlfriend’s at the time and I was looking for a radio to put on. Then I was looking for batteries for the radio. Then I tried loading it on her laptop. Then I tried loading it on my laptop (with broken speakers). Finally, I found a pair of headphones and was able to listen to it on my computer. I missed the little intro they gave for me but I got to hear the song. It was cool.
I had gotten an email a couple days ago about the feature but I honestly forgot until about an hour before we were to go on. I got a call from Anthony, the old drummer who drummed on the EP and I got a little worried. We hadn’t spoken much since I gave him the boot from the band, an issue made worse by the way I handled it. I’m not much of an assertive leader and I kind of kicked him out without warning–it was for the best but I handled it like an idiot. Anyways, he was nice enough to call and remind me and I was relieved that we were able to chat a bit on the phone, which is great because I knew him and we were friendly before we were in the band and I would have hated for that to have soured.
I got a couple congratulatory calls and it was welcome. I’m not sure it’ll have any tangible benefits on my career but it’s still a nice stepping stone and watermark for the career.
Hooray.
A couple other interesting tidbits:
1. The River is one of the country’s only solar powered radio stations (hooray earth!)
2. They played a station ID spot right before my song and it featured a song by my roommates (hooray Cahill!)
Congrats! This is awesome news!!!
