Somebody Doesn’t Like Me (!)

So, we fell a little bit short on Our Stage this month. Thanks to everyone for the fantastic support. We were top 10 in two channels–the Newport Folk Festival and Radio 92.9’s Earthfest but weren’t able to take either title home. It’s definitely draining getting the word out and trying to drum up support so I think I’m going to take some time off from OurStage (no guarantee though…haha)

I was surprised, however, from an anonymous comment someone posted on my blog during my last entry. I’ll re-print it now:

Brian, this is a fantastic idea! The way you have made OurStage into the complete opposite of what it was intended for… and the way you’ve been so PUBLIC about it on your site and on your myspace page!

I can only believe that this brazen attempt to throw these important contests will go unnoticed by those competing against you… indeed, unnoticed by OurStage itself! You are truly a smart, scrupulous guy.

I’d wish you luck in this endeavor, but apparently you’ve taken all the luck out of it, so there’s no need! I can’t see how you’ll fail.

…er, excuse me: how you WOULD fail. I can’t see how you WOULD fail. That was just a slip. Heh. What was I thinking? ;)

I’ve been public about promoting Our Stage to my friends and fans but isn’t that kind of the point? Our Stage’s slogan is: “Let The Fans Decide” and they encourage you to tell people to vote for you. I thought it was very strange…at first I felt bad but after a while I was more confused than anything. Well, lucky for this guy, I ended up ‘failing’…haha…That’s all I’m going to say about that.

…So, Faneuil Hall is continuing to do well. Last week, it was April vacation week for Massachusetts Public Schools and I was out there a few days and it went really well. Once Memorial Day hits, I hope that I’ll be cruising. The one thing that worries me is when I’m out there for a few hours my throat starts to get sore. I’ve been very careful about playing out there too much but that’s a problem that started happening towards the END of the season last year, so I guess I just have to closely monitor it.

I’m trying to put more time now playing guitar and songwriting because I’ve been neglecting that lately. Once I get into Faneuil Hall mode, it’s all about playing and playing and playing but I seldom get to work on new things. Also, this semester I’ve been devoting a lot of time to the business side of things and haven’t given my creative mojo enough love…Well, I hope that’s about to change.

Gary’s getting cooking as my agent too. He’s been contacting schools as far as Canada and is potentially going to book a tour down to Nashville, which I hope to work down to Texas to see some friends so the future is bright.

As far as OurStage goes, I usually use disappointment as motivation so I’m back grinding it out again.

Lastly, congratulations to my good friends CAHILL who got selected as a side stage band at Earthfest this year. Hurrah!

Have a good one.
