What’s so interesting about me anyways?
I started this blog in October (in its old form) as a way to keep people in the loop about what I’ve been up to as well as a way for me to be able to look back on past accomplishments and to hone myself as a writer. Sometime over the last few months, I have found myself reading about more successful bloggers making a living by writing. I eventually saw that as killing two birds with one stone. Of course, music is far more important to me than a blog but I figured if what I wrote about was interesting enough, then I could make some income to support the musical side of things.
There is a whole complex world of blogs that I don’t quite understand but find fascinating all the same. It would become quite an endeavor to make my blog equipped with the ability to sustain a growing readership and to generate enough ad clicks to make any kind of noticeable revenue. I’m starting to re-consider the whole operation and I wonder if it’s something I’ll pursue.
I merely wanted to be transparent with my thinking for the future of this blog. Do I want to keep it a solely selfish endeavor (with the exception of a few faithful readers) or do I want to try and get it out there to a wide audience?
Would anyone care?
I don’t fool myself into thinking that my world is interesting enough to necessitate someone taking time out of their day each day to see what I’ve been thinking/doing and I’m grateful for those people that spend anytime here.
I don’t know where I’m going with all this but I’ll certainly be going SOMEWHERE soon (whether it’s forwards or backwards, I don’t know).
Jeff and I had a discussion about this not too long ago. Some bloggers are viewed as celebrities; they get invited to the best Hollywood parties and are wined and dined by famous people. I think the success is to find one thing to blog about and then make it the focus (with tags and everything). For example, if I had to categorize your blog I would put it under the “upcoming indie artist struggling in a talent saturated market”. You talk about your struggles and bounce your ideas off of others. I think you have the right idea… you just haven’t given it enough time. PLUS, some people (I used to be guilty of this) are what I call blog whores; they jump from blog to blog reading them but not commenting on them. Since the creation of my own blog, I have tried to stop doing this because I know how nice it is to get a comment so you know people are actually reading it.
Another thing that I think draws a lot of attention and readers are pictures (you did a great job with adding the videos in one of your previous blogs). You should check out the Mates of State blog . I believe this blog helped them become as successful as they are. I started listening after connecting to them on a personal level through this blog.
You have the basic concept down. You update it almost daily (if not more) and you already said you promote it. Next steps are to get people to promote it on their own blogs, Make sure when you comment on other blogs, that you leave your web address so it links to it. I have been lead to several blogs this way. As you know with anything, once you have your fan base, you can start making your money; through your blog and even with your music.
I’ve been considering starting a blog, myself. And i know i’ve said it in the past, but i’m pretty much right where you are with the heistations. I’m also afraid i couldn’t update it regularly enough to make people care about it. i tried in the past and just went stagnant after a couple of posts.
