NYC Show Re-cap
I called an audible at the last minute and decided to take Lucky Star bus company into NYC rather than driving. It saved me over $100 and I felt a lot safer than taking the Fung Wah bus. Unfortunately, it was a major pain to bring all of my equipment on the bus. It made my day a lot longer (I didn’t get home until close to 2:30) but I got to chill out on the bus. Additionally, NYC subways aren’t very handicap accessible (I had my amp on a dolly and all my equipment was close to 60 lbs.) and it was hot as hell so there was a lot of lugging around and sweating.
NYC has lost its romanticism for me. It was a matter of spending the least amount of time in the city as possible. I got there, went to Jamba Juice and drank a smoothie, played the gig and went home. All said, I was in the city for about 5 hours.
The gig itself was basically what I expected. I played close to two hours and was basically ignored by the students who were there to socialize and network. I knew what I was getting myself into when I took the gig. It was nice, however, when people came over to say hi and told me they enjoyed the music. That was encouraging. I was able to give away like 10 CDs and all the people putting on the event were nice to me as always. It’s a great hook-up that I have in the NEU alumni connection.
I can’t sleep on buses so I was able to re-connect with “The Office” (which was great) and I got to listen to some CDs that I haven’t gotten to in a long time. I listened through most of the Death Cab for Cutie CDs that I have and realized (like I always do) that they’re one of my favorite bands.
It was a nice solitary day. I enjoy having the time to ride a bus and do a lot of thinking and I was able to do some more album planning. I met with Will today and we decided on the 10 songs! More on that later.
