1st thing–I’m sorry to those of you who have commented only to discover your comments deleted. I’ve been sorting out spam comments and fake ones and every once and a while I accidentally delete a real one. Rest asured, if you posted something thoughtful, I DID read it. One particularly funny one I saw today was something along the lines of you, “You should blog more often when drinking whiskey. It’s interesting (or funny…)” in response to my “Sucking is OK” blog.
2nd thing–We’ve reached the quarter-finals in OurStage.com’s male singer-songwriter category, which means a few things:
1. We’re one step closer to hopefully opening for Matt Nathanson. The closer we get to the top, the better our chances.
2. You all have 4 days to vote us into the Top 10 (we’re currently 16th for our song “Tell My Story”)
3. There are only 20 songs left and I’ve listened to all of them and they’re all pretty good so it makes for some fun listening. There are a couple of the songs that I particularly enjoy including one by Scott Andrew who I have emailed a couple times for blog advice because his is awesome.
…SO, make sure you go to OurStage.com and sign up (it’s free and easy) and search for Brian Bergeron and The Late Greats and join our fan club, add us as a friend, and add “Tell My Story” as one of your favorite songs. It’ll increase our chances of sticking out! Then you can vote for the Male Singer-Songwriter category and find some other great music. It’s down to crunch time so everything left is on the top of the heap.
3rd thing— I did some recording yesterday with Will at a friend’s rehearsal space. The dude is a local prominent drummer but he’s also a kick-ass dude and engineer. We laid down acoustic guitar for all but two of the songs on the record. For those of you keeping score at home, we’ve laid down drums and bass for all the songs and only have acoustic guitar for 2 songs (”Sisters” and one more song TBA). We’re going to finish acoustic guitars on Monday or Tuesday of next week and make sure we have good scratch vocals for all of the songs (which are rough vocal takes…by no means the final cuts) then we’re sending them of to Phil Aiken, keyboard and organ expert and we’ll be in communication over a week while he cuts the keys at his home studio.
Once organs, keys, etc. are done, we’re going to block out 3 days at a studio somewhere (maybe back at Q Division, maybe elsewhere) and nail down electric guitars and most of vocals. At that point, we’re going to find somewhere to finish vocals and any other little spices. Matt Tahaney plans on doing percussion at his home and that should pretty much be the tracking of the record. It sounds AWESOME so far and the plan is to release it sometime in February. In a month’s time we should have a much better idea where we stand with everything.
I’m definitely going to keep everyone in the loop as to where we’re at with everything (like I’ve always done) but most of this experience has been new to me. I haven’t recorded anything of this caliber before and it’s exciting.
4th thing–We won’t be performing Friday at Faneuil Hall. It’s supposed to be cold and rainy but I’ll be out there on Sunday from 1-5 by myself.
That’s everything. Go to Our Stage! Thanks for reading.
