The first time I heard I and Love and You by the Avett Brothers, I changed the station without even hearing who the song was by. I put it in the same category of cheesy ballads from the likes of Snow Patrol and wasn’t grabbed by its simplicity. The second time I heard it, I was impressed by some very traditional folk influences and liked the production enough to discover it was by the Avett Brothers, whom many trusted musical friends had long been recommending to me. I had the opportunity to hear the entire song this morning, then immediately downloaded the CD. I think it’s a very subtle song and though I haven’t been completely bowled over, I like it enough to want to hear more.
It could pay dividends if they grow on me because they have a huge catalog.
