Moving Update (Countdown: 13 Days)

I’m back from my friend Bob’s bachelor party, an event which I have some reflections that I hope to make in the next couple of days. First, however, a moving update. Last week we found someone to sublet our apartment, which was the thing that was most unnerving about the move because it is off-season and our apartment needs a lot of updating. Still, all is well that ends well and we’re off the hook for that.

That reservation has now been supplanted by my fear about flying with my cat. As an experiment, Marie and I took her to her parent’s house for Thanksgiving to see how she’d react and she fussed the entire time in the car, loudly. I hope she doesn’t raise hell for the 6 hour flight across the country.

The name of the game has now become packing. We’ll be shipping our stuff out before Christmas and will live out of a suitcase for a few days before we move. It’ll be nice to enjoy the holidays in peace but there’s much to be done to prepare, which is why, of course, I’m sitting on my couch blogging instead of packing.

The couch is the reason I’m writing this blog in the first place. Our living room has become a weigh station for our life and the boxes and suitcases are building in number. I was relieved to give away a chair and ottoman that we’re not taking and someone came by on Friday and paid cash to buy our IKEA couch. What is not good however, is the fact that over the course of the weekend, the couch that we collected money for now has a reasonably sized stain on the cover.

Sigh. So, the guy has all ready paid for the couch but I feel bad because it got ruined this weekend. Still, this hitch is only a small one in our move, which I’m still not really that nervous for.

I’m waiting for it to hit me but I don’t suspect it will be until we move out our things on December 22nd. I think I’ll probably freak out on Christmas Eve. I don’t know though.
